Welcome to the University of Washington and UAW Local 4121, the Union for Academic Student Employees (ASEs). Through the Union we bargain collectively over the terms and conditions of employment for all graduate and undergraduate ASEs at UW – Research Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Staff Assistants, Reader/Graders, Tutors, and Trainees and Fellows whose work is similar to Research Assistants.

Our strong majority membership has allowed us to negotiate and enforce wage increases for all ASEs , improvements to health insurance, strong workload and non-discrimination and sexual harassment protections, as well as other improvements. As an ASE, you are covered by our contract with UW.

We are renegotiating our contract this academic year, so it’s critical that our membership is as strong as ever.
