Happy Lunar New Year’s Eve!
We met with the University’s bargaining team today, and discussed a number of items on our bargaining agenda. Some of these items were positively received by the University—for example, the University expressed interest in our proposal to better advise ASEs of their intellectual property rights, and full support for our proposal to access information that maximizes the union’s ability to receive information that helps us represent our members.
Unfortunately, for other items, including micro-aggressions, childcare, career services, and debt management, the University offered little in response beyond promises to engage these items further at a later meeting. Furthermore, our exchanges today concerning the international student fee made clear that significant pressure is still needed to move the University to support an equitable and diverse campus.
Given these developments, it is especially important that members remain informed about and engaged in the bargaining process. You can help keep up pressure on the University by:
- Participating in a work group meeting
- Participating in the next bargaining session (Tomorrow, 2/19, 9am in Condon 311)
- Signing on in support of the bargaining demands and share bargaining updates with others in your department
- Liking UAW 4121 on Facebook and following us on Twitter
Our next membership meeting will be held tomorrow (Thurdsay February 19) at 5 PM in South Lake Union Building E, Room 130A&B. Building E is located on the northwest corner of Republican St. and 8th Ave. N. The entrance on 8th Ave. N, next to Microscopic Market, is the closet entrance to Room 130A&B. The UW South Lake Union Shuttle, which you can catch from the main Seattle campus, Fred Hutch, or Harborview, will drop you off about a block away from Building E. Just get off at stop 15, which is located on the north side of Republican St. between 8th and 9th Ave N. Bus routes 17, 26, 28 and 70 as well as the SLU Streetcar will also drop you off near South Lake Union.
All members in good standing are encouraged to attend, and as always children are welcome and new members may sign up to join the union at the meeting.
