Tax Amazon March
Join fellow 4121 members this weekend in the continued movement to Tax Amazon and fund social housing!
- What: Tax Amazon March!
- When: Sunday, 3/1, from 1PM-3PM
- Where: Cal Anderson Park, then to the Amazon Spheres
- Who: You (in UAW colors if possible!), and the rest of the Tax Amazon movement.
In January our union endorsed the Tax Amazon movement, which is fighting to tax the top 3% of companies in Seattle to fund social housing and a Green New Deal. This is a critically needed step to address the housing crisis in Seattle, but making it a reality will require all of us to take an active role in the movement.
You may have heard that the statewide legislature is considering a ban on this type of tax (called “preemption”). Last Saturday, the Tax Amazon movement addressed state legislators Nicole Macri, Frank Chopp, and Jamie Pedersen at a town hall event and asked them to stand with us against undemocratic preemption measures, which would totally gut the possibility of progressive taxation. Representative Chopp stated publicly that he opposes preemption, but unfortunately Macri and Pedersen have yet to do so.
