Family Friendly and Gender-Equity

 

Who We Are

The Family Friendly and Gender-Equity working group focuses on supporting the family needs of students on issues of childcare, parental leave, lactation stations, and more.  We make sure students know of existing resources and advocate for access to additional resources.

Short Term Goals Long Term Goals
Compile list of existing resources – UAW, UW, etc. and distribute to 1) members 2) stewards for dissemination among departmental list servs Build on existing momentum (and create when possible) for family issues on campus and regionally – related to child care, universal preschool, family/sick leave, etc.
Access child care survey data (from last year’s GPSS initiative) Organize around existing efforts (i.e., board of regents)
Access family story/anecdotes (from last year’s GPSS initiative)
What We Do

Ongoing Work:

  • Enforcing and improving the availability of lactation stations on campus
  • Fostering a more inclusive environment for students who are parents
  • Working with the M.L. King County Labor Council and Councilmember Kshama Sawant’s office to secure paid family leave in Seattle (for information from July’s Town Hall meeting on paid family leave, check out this Facebook event.)
