Microaggressions & Implicit Bias

Who We Are

The Microaggressions Working Group seeks to empower and protect ASEs against microaggressions and implicit bias on campus. In particular, our work is framed by the understanding that because microaggressions and implicit bias both manifest and perpetuate institutionalized oppressions, they cannot be effectively addressed without an institutional approach. Our preliminary goals are to:

  • Clarify the definition of “microaggression” so it is clear to both ASEs and the university
  • Establish an online reporting system so we can better track both repeat offenders and patterns of microaggressions and implicit bias across campus
  • Establish microaggression and implicit bias trainings to improve understanding and response among campus members
  • Establish a clearer strategy for remediation
