Next week we will be participating in a series of actions to keep pressuring the University to implement the arbitrator’s decision around fees.

  • Throughout the week, TAs will be talking with their students about the issue, and discussing how it connects with larger economic forces that have resulted in tuition/fees becoming the revenue stream of choice for Universities.
  • On Friday we will deliver invoices that have been filled out by UAW members, urging President Young to pay back the fees that have already been charged.
  • Also on Friday we will hold a rally and action at 12:30 p.m. at Schmitz Hall.  Don’t forget that if you’ve been able to hold off paying your fees, bring your payment on that day.
Members will be phoning in the Local Union office from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings to help spread the word about the action.  Let us know if you can help by filling out the form below.
Deep austerity cuts to the budget by the state Legislature, and a refusal to pass meaningful progressive revenue measures to support core state services (including higher ed), have been coupled with increases in student tuition/fees to backfill revenue losses.  While our members have stood united against the University attempting to relieve budgetary pressures by violating our collective bargaining agreement, we also can deliver the message that Olympia needs to do its part in fully funding UW with public money to keep research, teaching and service strong.
