As you know, our Local has initiated bargaining with the University over adverse impacts of the travel bans. We had our first round of bargaining on April 6, where UW admin confirmed that they would eliminate the international student fee. This is huge news and comes after years of consistent pressure from many groups on campus, including our Local.

However, a number of our demands have not yet been met, including the urgent demand that those affected by the travel bans have support for summer funding. Many international students’ visas authorize them to work only on campus, and now without the guarantee that they will be able to reenter the US if they return home for three months, urgently need summer funding through the UW. Our next bargaining session is this Friday, May 19, 11-noon at Roosevelt Commons West 298. We’ll meet outside RCW at 10:30 — please make it out to help demonstrate to the university that they need to meet this critical demand, and that we are united for international students impacted by the travel bans!

If you are an international student impacted by the travel bans and have concerns about your summer funding, please contact us as soon as possible by emailing uaw4121@uaw4121.org.
