On Wednesday, 10/29 at 4:30 p.m. we’ll kick off this year’s contract campaign with a meeting and social in Gowen 301 on the Quad of the UW Seattle campus.
We’ll be joined by special guests Gary Jones (Director of UAW Region 5) and Pramila Jayapal (long-time activist and Washington State Senate Candidate in the 37th Legislative District) for additional perspective about how collective bargaining supports larger struggles for a stronger higher education system and a more just society. We’ll also look at the data from our bargaining/mobilization survey (you still have time to fill yours out), and begin to discuss our agenda for negotiating with UW.
In addition we’ll conduct our annual election of a new Election Committee, consisting of up to seven (7) members and one (1) alternate, which is responsible for overseeing all Local votes for the coming year. All members are automatically nominated for the Election Committee, and may accept nomination any time before 5:00 p.m. on 10/29/14. We will vote immediately after close of nominations, and the highest runner up will be the alternate.
There will be free food and drink at this meeting, and there will be great company of other union members – both new and returning – from around campus.. Come meet, mingle, and be part of our campaign for another great contract!
All members in good standing are encouraged to attend, and as always children are welcome.
