Labor Day Action

On Labor Day, Seattle Westin workers, the Labor Movement, and community supporters will hold a demonstration to demand that Marriott, the world’s biggest and richest hotel company, set the standard in the hotel industry and make one job that is enough for hotel workers to live on.  This demand is also coming from Marriott workers in Boston, San Francisco, Honolulu, San Diego, Detroit, San Jose, and Oakland. Please show up in solidarity with Unite HERE! Local 8 hotel workers!

Support for Striking Teachers

As you’ve probably seen, several of our area’s education unions, including Highline, Tukwila, and Kent, have voted to authorize a strike.  While Federal Way ratified their new contract and Seattle reached a tentative agreement, there are still teachers in other school districts who are not finished negotiating and need our support.

Educators have gone years without a meaningful raise and, due to the McCleary funding, have a golden opportunity to secure the pay increase they deserve.  But many of our elected school districts in King and Pierce Counties are resisting their demands.  Educators need our support!  We’ll keep you posted to actions, rallies, and other ways to support educators on our Facebook page.

UPASS Action on 9/12

Rally for free transit! On Wednesday September 12, there will be a rally at 4pm outside the UW Light Rail station, urging the UW to increase transit usage, ease gridlock, and improve air quality by providing free transit passes to all its employees, like so many other King County businesses and government agencies do. A big turnout sends a strong message that employees want UW to live up to its promises about sustainability and climate action.
