Dear UAW Member,
UPASS Update & Action
Last Thursday, the UW union coalition met again with the UW Administration to bargain over the UPASS, as well as other items. At that session, UW proposed that, if the coalition were to “agree to engage the City of Seattle in conversations regarding the commercial parking tax”, they would agree to use any savings to further subsidize the UPASS. Our unions coalition maintained our position that the UPASS should be free for all employees, and that UW should be doing more to improve overall compensation at a time when costs of living are continuing to skyrocket.
Following up on last week’s successful action, campus workers are taking action again this week. The first is today (9/18), noon at Gerberding Hall on Red Square, where a delegation will demonstrate against UW’s economic proposals, particularly wages. On Wednesday (9/19), we’ll again show up at 12:00 noon at Montlake and Pacific to push for a free UPass.
Join us!
Join other UAW members to kick off the year at Big Time Brewery from 4-6 p.m on Friday 9/28. Get your free drink, share some snacks with other members from across campus, and learn a bit about what’s happening this year in the union. New members are most welcome!
