The Family Friendly Working Group (familyfriendly@uaw4121.org) has finalized a reimbursement system for the Postdoc Caregiver Fund. With this fund, we aim to distribute meaningful assistance to Postdocs in the most need. The enrollment questions will allow us to distribute these funds equitably.
Last year the size of the Caregiver Fund was $50,000. In current on-going negotiations with the UW Administration, both parties have reached tentative agreement on Article 5: Childcare, which will increase the size of the fund to $75,000 in 2023 and future years, with biannual distributions in May and November. However, since the contract negotiations are still ongoing (see more information about our unfair labor practice charge alleging that UW Administration has violated labor law at the bargaining table), this agreement is only tentative pending final agreement of the entire CBA. This means that UW Admin may claim that they have no obligation to support Postdoc caregivers at this time. Enrollees will be updated as we learn additional information.
In the interest of preparing Admin to disburse the funds, we are urging Postdocs to enroll now to ensure that documentation is completed when a final agreement is reached. Please start your enrollment by filling out the intake form. This will direct you to the enrollment form. This was designed to make sure that everybody has the opportunity to enroll. Incomplete submissions will be flagged and you’ll be contacted with reminders.
Eligibility and amounts given will be need-based according to the criteria below and determined after all responses are collected. You must have been a UW Postdoc during the enrollment period and have a current active UW appointment as of payment (5/25/23 and 11/25/23). First enrollment period:

- Expected UW payment: 5/25/23 paycheck
Second enrollment period:
- Enrollment closes: 09/30/23
- UW issues payment: 11/25/23 paycheck
Description of credit assignment (add all credits):
Each postdoc caregiver: 0.5 credits / month of employment during enrollment period
Single caregiver status: 0.5 credit
Additional credit per dependent:
- < 1 year- 1
- 1-3 years- 0.9
- 3-4 years- 0.73
- 5 years- 0.25
- 6+ years- no additional credits
Income: scale up to 1 based on all responses
