Thanks to all who came out today to take action for TAs! Members and allies picketed on the Quad, confronted multiple department chairs, deans, and the Provost, with grievances fighting TA cuts and institutionalized racism, and occupied the President’s office for several hours. Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant paid us a visit to express support for our campaign and delivered a letter to Provost Baldasty urging continued funding of TAships. Throughout the day, members communicated the impact that job cuts have on our lives, asserting that UW has the money but has not managed properly their budgets and student enrollment fluctuations.
The University’s response to our information request is here. We’ll keep you apprised on continued developments on this campaign. Again if you were expecting a TA position in the Fall and did not receive one, and have not already been in touch with your union representative, email us at uaw4121@uaw4121.org
