Onward to 2027

UAW 4121 - THE UNION OF 8,000 ACADEMIC WORKERS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON

The 2024 ASE Tentative Agreement (TA) has been ratified by membership! With the gains in our new contract secured, it’s time to build on these to win more throughout the next 3 years. Read on for information on how to get involved!

Every win we’ve made in our union’s 20 year history has been a direct result of mass member action. The gains in this contract are the direct result of thousands of ASEs over the last three years who put countless hours into organizing new members, strategizing together and building out committees and workgroups, identifying and addressing issues through campaigns, and more.

Everything that comes next, as everything that came before, depends on each and every one of us taking part in building our union. As with every contract campaign, a single contract is never won and done in our continual fight to shift the balance of power at our institution. Concretely, building power towards our next contract campaign starts now – starting with implementing and enforcing the wins we’ve made in this contract, strengthening our networks of communication and solidarity with each other, and setting ambitious goals for what we want to win next paired with robust plans to win them throughout the next 3 years.

Fired up & ready to keep building our power to win more? Fill out the “Next Steps” form.

Onward to 2027.

Topics will include: Building Department Campaigns, Contract Enforcement for Organizers, Communicating for Power, Union/Organizing 101, Facilitating for Power, Designing a Membership Organizing Drive, and more.

All ASE, Postdocs, and RSE members & incoming ASEs are strongly encouraged to join! More information to follow — fill out the form below to get updates.

Organizing Committees

Unit-wide Organizing Committees (OCs) each meet weekly to strategize and coordinate member-to-member organizing across UW. In addition to the UW-wide OCs, many departments/areas have OCs that meet regularly and coordinate with each other across departments and bargaining units.

More information about OCs can be found on this page.

Working Groups & Committees

Through working groups, members strategize, develop, and coordinate action plans around specific topics or campaigns such as housing justice, disability justice & accessibility, healthcare access, political advocacy, international student & scholar issues, and more. Through committees, members directly participate in maintaining various aspects of our union, including communications, education & trainings, new member organizing, and more.

Working groups & committees are open to all UAW 4121 members, and they’re a crucial part of building our collective power together. You can attend a meeting or just subscribe to a group email listserv if you’re interested. No prior experience necessary, and all members are highly encouraged to join!

More information about Working Groups & Committees can be found here.
