Leaves of Absence

Our collective bargaining agreement provides that ASEs will be granted reasonable requests for leave due to personal illness/disability; care of a family member; childbirth or adoption; or bereavement due to death of a family member.  ASEs with 50% appointments for an academic year or longer will receive seven (7) paid leave days per year, or prorated for appointments with shorter duration.  In addition ASEs with 50% appointments for an academic year are entitled to one (1) quarter of unpaid leave with University-provided health insurance.  For less-than-academic year appointments leave for these ASEs will be prorated.

When taking approved leave an ASE cannot be required to register for tuition credits, and taking leave will not impact departmental decisions concerning re-appointment or transfer.
