Health Care Benefits
- GAIP (Graduate Appointee Insurance Program) – your health care insurance under the contract.
- ISHIP (International Student Health Insurance Program) – International students, when they are not 50% FTE, can have ISHIP to fulfill the insurance requirement.
- Mental Health access – Through direct action during our contract campaign, we will have 100% mental health coverage at Hall Health and have the deductible waived (regardless of whether in-network or out-of-network). This will take effect on October 1, 2018.
- Trans inclusive healthcare – Through direct action during our contract campaign, trans inclusive procedures and surgeries are included as covered surgeries and paid at network levels. Covered procedures are listed on page 53 of the medical plan summary. This will take effect on October 1, 2018.
- List of trans affirming health providers – In Fall 2015, we distributed a survey to all ASEs to gather information on the health care needs of trans members. We are in ongoing efforts to improve GAIP coverage of trans-related health services, including getting clarification on which services are covered, calling for improved trans competency of Lifewise representatives, etc. This is an ongoing list of trans-affirming health providers in the Seattle area who accept GAIP.
- List of lactation stations at UW – The Family Friendly & Gender Equity workgroup is actively working to enforce and improve the availability of lactation stations on campus. This is a list of lactation stations on all 3 UW campuses.
