Postdoc Childcare Fund Enrollment is now open!

Postdoc caregivers: enrollment is now open for the Postdoc Childcare fund. Enroll today.

The Postdoc Childcare Fund is now accepting responses for the second half of 2021. Our collective bargaining agreement provides for a collective caregiving fund of $45,000 in 2021 that is distributed semiannually. Funds will be distributed in December for Postdoc caregivers who worked at UW anytime from July to December 2021. If you are a Postdoc parent or caregiver, enroll today. Please reach out to the Family Friendly Workgroup (familyfriendly@uaw4121.org) with any questions or to get more involved.

How To Get Involved in Your Union

There are oodles of ways to get more involved in our union, for new and returning members alike! High member engagement across our union spaces and processes ensures that we can build a strong collective voice that represents all of us. Here are some ideas:

  • Find a workgroup to join! Don’t see one that strikes your fancy? Any member can start up a new workgroup around an issue pertinent to members.
  • Get involved with your area organizing committee!
  • Invite other grad students, ASEs, and postdocs in your department to attend a membership meeting with you!
  • Print and post a Know Your Rights flier in your department where other ASEs and Postdocs will see it and talk with others in your departments.
  • If there is an open steward position in your department, consider becoming a steward! Stewards often help out with delivering orientations to new ASEs and postdocs and help connect members in their departments to other workgroups or committees in our union
  • Join the ASE Slack channel to jump into the discussion!

For more ideas of how to get even more plugged in, reach out to your steward or attend a monthly membership meeting.

COVID Vaccination Verification Due October 18

All UW employees (excepting those with approved medical or religious exemptions) must have completed their COVID-19 vaccination verification by Monday October 18 — this includes ASEs and Postdocs. Follow these instructions to check your vaccination verification status in Workday. Additionally, all students (including ASEs) who are not in the health sciences must verify vaccination status and upload documents to Hall Health by October 29 using this form. This is required even if an earlier vaccination attestation was submitted! Please reach out to contractenforcement@uaw4121.org if you’re experiencing any barriers to completing your verification.

As Academic Student Employees and Postdocs, we have strong protections in our contracts for issues such as health & safety, workload, paid training, and more (printable summary here). Note that both the Academic Student Employee and Postdoc contracts are clear that we cannot be required to work in conditions that pose an imminent threat to health and safety. If you have any concerns or questions about your appointment, reach out to the Contract Enforcement Working Group <contractenforcement@uaw4121.org> right away for support.

Members are continuing to meet on an ongoing basis to coordinate and develop organizing plans for ensuring a safe campus for all. If you are interested in getting involved, please fill out your information here. For more information about updated policies, resources, and your contractual rights, check out the COVID Resource Center.
