Over 350 people came tonight to participate in our membership meeting and debate plans for fighting fees and promoting union democracy. The meeting was adjourned prior to any actions being taken, after members present decided that the room was too small to conduct business given the large turnout and contentious discussion.

First, we would like to apologize for booking a room with a capacity that was not suited to a group this size. Turnout exceeded our expectations – a good thing! – and we hope to see even more people at the next meeting. For future discussions on these agenda items we’ll be sure to anticipate a much larger group. We look forward to working with GPSS on securing a larger room, and ensuring that all members feel safe and respected. We also appreciate those members who were committed to creative problem solving under these circumstances, and who tried to stay focused on making the best of a difficult situation.

Second, we’ve received constructive suggestions from many of you about how best to plan for the next meeting, given your strong interest in the questions on tonight’s agenda. We’re compiling materials for Roberts Rules of Order, among other things. Thank you, and please continue to let us know your thoughts! Email uaw4121@uaw4121.org with your ideas about how we might better facilitate this discussion to ensure a timely vote at our next meeting within two weeks.

In gratitude and solidarity,

UAW Local 4121 Executive Board/Bargaining Committee
