Don’t forget — we have several important events coming up this week, and your participation is critical!
Tomorrow, Thursday 5/18, our Local is hosting a Direct Action Training from 3-6pm at the University Friends Meeting House (just off campus at 4001 9th Ave NE). If you’d like to know more about your legal rights during direct actions, how to safety plan, and what makes a direct action effective, this is the perfect opportunity. We’ll also be discussing specific direct actions our Local can take in the upcoming weeks, so you won’t want to miss it! Light refreshments will be provided.
This Friday 5/19 is our next bargaining session! We’ll meet at 10:30am outside of Roosevelt Commons West before heading in to continue fighting for better protections and support for international students impacted by the travel bans. In particular, with summer fast approaching, we’ll put extra pressure on our demand for summer funding: Many international students’ visas restrict their work to campus jobs, and those impacted by the travel bans do not have the guarantee that they’ll be allowed to return to the US if if they go home for the summer. We need to pack the room on Friday to show the university how urgent and important it is that they fund impacted students, and your participation is critical!
To RSVP for either of these events, please fill out this RSVP form. A number of international students impacted by the travel bans have already expressed needed support for summer funding — if this applies to you too, please email uaw4121@uaw4121.org asap.
