Since January 20th, we’ve been hearing concerns from many members about their safety at UW. In particular, there has been a noticeable increase in harassment, discrimination, intimidation, bullying, and hostility, as well as an increased presence of hate groups and discriminatory graffiti.
These are very serious concerns, and we’ve been taking immediate action–including filing multiple grievances–to ensure that they are being addressed. If you or anyone you know has been bullied, threatened, stalked, intimidated, or otherwise made to feel unsafe (including online), please let us know as soon as possible. We have strong protections against unsafe and discriminatory work environments in our contract with UW, and a union representative can help make sure your safety is being prioritized.
We’ve also established a working group to continue pressuring the University into acting immediately to provide a safe and harassment-free campus. The first meeting will be this Thursday, 2/2, from 3-4 (location TBD). Please email hate-watch@uaw4121.org if you’d like more information or would like to get involved.
