With historically large turnout, a majority of all 4,000 Academic Student Employees (ASEs) at the University of Washington have voted to authorize the union’s bargaining committee to call a strike if circumstances justify.  Out of 2,258 total votes cast, 90% voted YES to authorizing, proving that Dean Eaton’s and Dean Taylor’s attempt to intimidate people from voting failed.  Members have clearly stated that we want UW to get serious about reaching a fair agreement.

In the wake of this historic vote, we met again with the University today in bargaining. A mediator from the Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC) attended at the request of the University. You can read the full bargaining update here.

Also today after bargaining the mobilization committee met and is working with stewards and activists across campus to hold meetings in every department early next week to answer questions and plan for a strike if necessary.  Please let us know if you would like to help make these meetings happen in your department.

If you have further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

In solidarity,

UAW Local 4121 Bargaining Committee
