As you may know, two of our fellow UW unions, WFSE 1488 and SEIU 925, are currently in joint bargaining with University administration. Their contract expires in less than two weeks, but the University is stalling on giving them a fair contract.
When we were bargaining our most recent contract, the University used the same tactic on us, and WFSE and SEUI were there to support us, so it’s time to return the favor. Especially given that many of our concerns – adequate position funding, child care, family leave, transportation, fees – are shared by all UW workers, this is an important opportunity for us to come together and show the University administration that we’re ready to fight on these issues, and that we support unions who are at the bargaining table.
So, join us Tuesday, September 20th from 11am-1pm on Red Square for an informational picket to make some noise for UW unions. We’ll be showing solidarity with other UW unions as well as raising issues that we’re working on, including overtime and budget transparency.
Let’s start off the academic year union proud!
