Thursday (June 2nd), beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the Quad, take action to hold UW accountable and fund TA positions!

See details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1630059900654011/

As you may recall, several weeks ago the Union filed a demand to bargain with UW, following threats from some department chairs within the College of Arts and Sciences that TA positions could be dramatically cut in the coming academic year.

These threats have recently intensified in certain departments like History and Anthropology, while explanations for the need for any cuts – budget deficits, changing legislative appropriations, ASE wage increases – have remained vague or unfounded. We’ve filed an information request to demand full budget transparency in cases where departments are threatening cuts due to lack of funding, in order to determine how these threats reflect actual budgetary priorities (by individual units or the central administration).

If you are hearing threats of cuts in your department, and have not already contacted your union representative, please get in touch as soon as possible. You can find your rep on the website here or you can send an email to uaw4121@uaw4121.org. Please provide any communications you’ve seen about proposed cuts, as well as your appointment/offer letters or emails, to help ascertain what the University has already committed to with regard to your funding.

This is a critical moment to demonstrate solidarity.  Please share this event widely and be sure to turn out in person this Thursday in the Quad beginning at 10:00 a.m.!
