Yesterday, UAW 4121 members mobilized to defend a non-citizen member of our union and the University of Washington community. The member was detained overnight at Seattle-Tacoma International Ai\9ort along with his child, and the two were subsequently required to board a flight leaving the US. Both are safe.
We condemn this action against a member of our union, and we demand their immediate return to the US.
UAW 4121 members mobilized a rapid response, holding an emergency rally at Seattle-Tacoma Airport this afternoon to demonstrate their support. We are continuing to monitor the situation and advocate for our fellow union member’s immigration rights, and the immigration rights of all UAW 4121 members. Thus far conversations with University of Washington administration have been productive, and UAW 4121 members continue to call on the University to act swiftly to help bring this member back to the US.
