Postdocs across UW have made it clear — we demand a contract that:
- Provides Fair and Just Compensation and Benefits
- Protects and Supports International Postdocs
- Ensures Parity Regardless of Funding Source
- Creates a Safe, Equitable, and Accessible Workplace
These Initial Bargaining Demands (IBDs) synthesize hundreds of bargaining survey responses and one-on-one conversations across our unit. Whether you’re struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living, are one of the over 40% of Postdocs on a visa, or are trying to care for your family, we all deserve to work under conditions that are equitable, safe, and treat us with dignity. Just listen to the voices of Postdocs across UW. In 2025, UW Postdocs agreed to a 0% raise to help UW navigate the threat of funding cuts by the Federal government. After killing the cuts through organizing, this summer we are returning to the bargaining table to win the contract that Postdocs deserve. To win a strong contract we will all need to work together — starting with a majority of Postdoc members ratifying our IBDs.
Research Staff have already begun bargaining their own contract — the sooner Postdocs ratify our demands, the sooner we can join our Research Staff siblings at the bargaining table to fight for issues that affect us all.
Can you take 30 seconds to ratify our bargaining demands today?
Our ability as a union to win these Initial Bargaining Demands is directly tied to union membership.
In solidarity,
The Postdoc Bargaining Team
