As we gear up for the ASE One-Day Strike on Tuesday, May 15th, your participation is needed for all of us to win! The more people who get involved, the more effective this strike will be towards securing a fair contract.
Starting today, we will be sending daily “Action Emails.” These emails will give you small ways to prepare for, spread the word about, and build up to our strike day. These emails will include tasks requiring a range of efforts. We hope that you can participate as fully as possible!
May 10th Actions:
- Got 1 minute? Commit to joining the strike!
- Got 5 minutes? Call your state representative to ask them to support our bargaining demands and our May 15 strike. The contact #s for local reps and script are below the fold in this email.
- Got an hour? Come to the Regents Meeting rally. (You can also sign up for picket shifts at the rally)

“Hi. My name is ____________ and I live in ______________________________. I am an Academic Student Employee at the University of Washington.
Insert impact statement here: Examples– I have taught over 200 undergraduates as a TA in my time here. I study the effects of climate change on sea level. I published papers that helped my boss get a grant worth half a million dollars.
Our state-funded public university has an obligation to taxpayers to uphold high academic quality. The majority of teaching hours are taught by ASEs, but rent-burdened TAs or TA/RAs who experience discrimination at the workplace or from their health-care provider cannot be expected to deliver the world class UW education while under such high levels of stress.
Please support the ASEs at UW by telling University leadership that you support the student employees pursuit of a fair and equitable contract.”
