UAW 4121 - UW Works Because We Do
Dear UAW member,

In our recent contract campaign, one of our central themes was fighting gender-based discrimination and harassment on campus and making concrete changes to create a more inclusive climate. Due to mobilizations by thousands of members, we won groundbreaking changes through our collective bargaining agreement.

Today, we will be participating in a national walkout and march to protest the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. The confirmation process in the US Senate has been proceeding despite several women raising serious, credible allegations of sexual assault. This process has highlighted many lawmakers’ indifference to the testimonies of women, and threatens to put the Supreme Court solidly in the hands of those whose documented aim is to revoke reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ rights, while also undermining workplace and union rights for everyone.  As we fight sexual harassment on campus, we need to make sure that deeply sexist policies do not become more enshrined at the national level.

A national walk-out will begin today at 4 PM with people leaving work, school, and homes, to protest the appointment. Seattleites will be converging by 5 PM at Westlake Square for a rally and march to the Federal Building in Seattle. UAW 4121 members will gather at Montlake Triangle (near the bridge to the light rail), at 4:15, and will leave in a group on the light rail at 4:30. We encourage members to come and participate, and show our union’s dedication to fighting sexual harassment on campus and beyond.
