Strike Authorization Vote

May 1 Update

Yesterday, University administration failed to meet the demands of UAW 4121 members for a fair and equitable contract that provides protections and crucial compensations for the 4,500 graduate and undergraduate TAs, RAs, Readers, Graders, and Tutors across UW on the last day of our contract.

About 400 ASEs turned out for the bargaining session to show unity in demanding a fair and equitable contract. In response, the university administration barred the building doors to prevent more members from entering and had the UW Police escort our members out of the building. Following the bargaining session last night, the bargaining committee met with hundreds of ASEs to discuss the University’s proposal and began to make plans for a one-day strike if we are have not reached a fair settlement on May 15.

Note: We ARE continuing to bargain — our next session is May 8.

STRIKE AUTHORIZATION VOTE FINAL RESULTS:

Yes – 2,528 votes
No – 102 votes

This is a huge accomplishment, as it is the highest voter turnout and largest strike authorization ever achieved by our union; 57% of all ASEs voted and 96.1% voted yes.
