Thursday: Contract Expiration — Be Present for Bargaining
Thursday marks the last day of our current contract and our last scheduled bargaining session with the University. As we move into the final hours before contract expiration, it is essential to continue to pressure the University, and to communicate in no uncertain terms that academic student employees will accept nothing less than a fair contract.
To that end, please…
- Sign and distribute UW Community for a Fair Contract’s petition in support of ASEs at UW.
- Come out to be present for bargaining at Condon Hall (CDH)! At 4pm there will be free food, drinks, union shirts, music, union-related trivia, and materials to make signs and posters. Please come out, and bring your fellow ASEs!

Department Meetings for Strike Preparation
Bargaining committee members, stewards, and activists across campus have held departmental meetings this week to discuss and prepare for a potential strike should the University refuse to agree to a fair contract. These meetings have generated very productive questions and discussions. The Strike FAQ page of the UAW 4121 website has been updated with input from the departmental meetings–be sure to check it out.
Also, some departments have their meetings scheduled for Thursday. If you haven’t had a meeting in your department yet, be sure to get in touch with your departmental steward.
Friday Rally and Petition to Support UW Custodians (WFSE Local 1488)
Many of you may know or at least recognize UW custodian Salvador Castillo, who has tirelessly advocated for workers at UW. The University is threatening to fire Salvador–and this is especially grotesque given UW’s ongoing understaffing of custodial positions.
In support of Salvador and the UW custodians (represented by WFSE Local 1488), there is another petition (please sign and circulate!) and a rally to deliver the petition signatures (Friday, 5/1, 10:45 in front of Gerberding in Red Square).
