Dear Colleague,
U-PASS update
The hard work and advocacy by so many of you across campus worked! Postdocs who were using payroll deductions for their U-PASS were not charged on the August 10 payslip covering the second pay period of July (hooray!). Unfortunately, many Postdocs paying for U-PASS received an automatic email from Transportation Services in error, but please rest assured that no action is required on your part.
Sign up for the U-PASS through Transportation Services if you haven’t already
Postdocs need to sign up for a UW employee U-Pass to receive the benefit. Your U-Pass will not be activated automatically. We will be meeting with Labor Relations soon to discuss reimbursements for the first July pay period for current U-PASS holders who did not get the benefit, and refunds for Postdocs who purchased ORCA cards and made other transportation purchases when their U-PASS enrollment was denied. Please let us know if you have questions or are having trouble enrolling for the U-PASS.
Membership
The most important step you can take to ensure smooth contract implementation and strong enforcement on issues like the U-PASS and wages is to build support by signing up to become a member.
You can ask questions about membership and pick up or drop off a membership form with one of your Postdoc colleagues (by the UAW 4121 sign) at Reboot Cafe every day this week from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM. Stop by and say hi!
Postdoc Parents Meeting
Save the date: On Tuesday, August 20th from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM in GUTHRIE 315, the Postdoc Parents working group will meet over lunch. Let’s get to know each other and discuss how to implement the first-ever childcare subsidies for Postdocs we won in our contract. If you are interested, come to the meeting and/or email pdparenting@uaw4121.org to get involved.
Other Ways to Get Involved:
- Apply for Training Specialist Position (Prevention of Sexual Harassment Program)! The position we negotiated with UW is still open. Feel free to contact us (uwpostdocsunited@gmail.com) if you’re interested or would like to discuss this exciting new program.
- Join a working group! As a reminder, in addition to Postdocs Parents we currently have three other active working groups serving critical roles: International Postdocs (pdinternational@uaw4121.org), Healthcare (pdhealthcare@uaw4121.org), and Non-Discrimination and Harrassment (pdantidiscrimination@uaw4121.org). Get in touch using the respective emails if you would like to be involved.
Sincerely,
The UW Postdocs United / UAW 4121 Bargaining Committee:
