Dear Colleague,
Thanks to your efforts, 68% of all UW Postdocs voted YES to ratify our new contract last week. Our strength as a Union of Postdocs comes from each and every one of us: our ability to confront discrimination and unjust working conditions, and to build the Postdoc network and infrastructure needed to negotiate improvements in our next contract comes from our membership.
That means it’s time to become an official member of UAW 4121! Strong membership numbers are key to enforcing the rights and protections we have won, and to negotiating our next contract when bargaining re-opens when the NIH scale changes, or when our contract expires. To become a member, fill out this membership form and submit a physical copy to a member of the bargaining committee, your Union area coordinator, or contact uwpostdocsunited@gmail.com to submit the form. Otherwise, stay tuned for a member to get in touch with you for help signing up. To learn more about membership and where our dues go, please see this FAQ on our website.
Our union (UAW Local 4121, Academic Student Employees and Postdocs) is having a special membership meeting on Thursday 6/27 from 5:30-7pm. Location details are TBD and we will send them in a subsequent email. On the agenda for this meeting is to hear the Bylaw Committee’s recommended changes for our Local Union’s bylaws to reflect our new Postdoc unit. We urge you to attend!
In solidarity,
The UW Postdocs United / UAW 4121 Bargaining Committee.
