Our next membership meeting will be Monday, April 21 at 4:30 p.m. in Foege N303.
All members in good standing are encouraged to attend, and as always children are welcome.
We plan to hear reports from members who have been doing research and developing action plans on key issues affecting Academic Student Employees. These include Compensation, Health Insurance, Research Funding, and Campus Work Environment (particularly for international students and underrepresented communities).
We also will give an update about our negotiated wage increases for the 2014/15 academic year, as well as upcoming changes to our tuition/fee waivers (remember, in Summer 2014 ASEs with 50% appointments will begin receiving full reimbursements for the SFR Fee). Likewise we’ll consider the proposed UAW membership dues increase, which will be at voted on the UAW Constitutional Convention in June.
Last we will discuss the (still-developing) political landscape of 2014, and focus on what role our Local can play in campaigns to improve the economy, fight income inequality, and create a more favorable climate in Olympia and Washington, DC for workers and educators.
