Postdoc & RSE Bargaining Planning Meeting Friday 1/6 12PM

On 12/22, UW illegally declared “Impasse” in a bargaining session with Research Scientist/Engineer A-4s (RSEs), indicating their refusal to bargain further on the topic of their unilateral conversion of many RSEs into hours-tracking positions. You can read more about that here. UW admin has also been failing to make sufficient progress on a number of topics in Postdoc bargaining – you can read more about recent updates here.

In order to build the momentum needed to win fair contracts, all UAW 4121 members are encouraged to join an important meeting this Friday 1/6 (tomorrow!) at noon via Zoom. This meeting will be an opportunity to build on momentum from the past two months, learn more about updates on the latest in bargaining, and to participate in determining our strategy for countering UW’s illegal actions and winning strong contracts. As you know, our strength and leverage at the bargaining table comes from our numbers, our unity, and importantly, our engagement. The University cannot function without us, and RSEs and Postdocs deserve fair contracts now!

Housing 4 the People Rally Weds 1/11 4:30PM

Last September, UW administration announced a plan to privatize four housing complexes, including two family housing units (Blakely Village and Laurel Village) that primarily serve graduate students with families. As discussed at the Rally for Housing Justice last October, this decision will not only displace current residents but will also have long-lasting effects for current and future members by eliminating affordable housing options, driving up housing costs, and setting the stage for further privatization of student housing units. Learn more and sign this petition calling on the UW Regents to build housing for people, not for profit.

RSVP here to join the Housing Justice Working Group, tenant organizers, and community housing justice organizations and advocates on Red Square at the Housing 4 The People Rally outside of the first UW Board of Regents meeting of 2023 on January 11th at 4:30pm. Get involved in organizing around this critical issue by connecting with others in your department, pairing up to talk with tenants, and more – reach out to the Housing Justice Working Group at housing-justice@uaw4121.org for more information.
