This morning, UAW 4121 worked with Washington Attorney General Nick Brown’s office to support a lawsuit to stop the Trump Administration’s reckless order to cap indirect cost recovery from NIH grants, which would cut around 100 million dollars in research funding to UW. Shortly thereafter, a Temporary Restraining Order was granted against this attack on research. Tonight at 6 PM, the UAW Higher Ed Department will host a webinar explaining more about what the NIH’s actions mean for academic workers.
RSVP here to defend public higher education!
The Trump Administration attacks on federal research funding will result in catastrophic consequences for live-saving medical research and for higher education in general. In response, academic workers are taking action:
- Tonight (February 10) at 6pm, the UAW Higher Ed Department is hosting a webinar so that workers can learn more about the NIH’s actions and what they mean for academic workers.
- On Wednesday, February 19, academic workers from across the country are holding Hands Off our Healthcare, Research and Jobs rallies to put pressure on our elected representatives to fight back against Trump’s attacks on higher education. RSVP for the Seattle action on 2/19 at noon.
- Do you want to get involved at UW? Share how NIH funding disruptions would affect you! To help the public understand what is at stake, UAW 4121 members are sharing their stories about how their research advances the public good and how federal funding disruptions would impact them. Click here to share your story and get connected.
As unionized academic workers we know, because we’ve done it many times before, that we have the collective power to defend research at UW and across the country. Click here to take action now!
