Attention UAW 4121 Members,
The Elections Committee was notified of additional errors regarding the fall 2024 elections. Please read the following information details, an updated list of vacant positions, and an adjusted election timeline. Members in good standing now have until 5pm on Friday, Nov. 1 to accept their automatic nomination.
Fall 2024 Steward Elections
Fall 2024 Steward Elections: September 2024 marked the end of the term for ALL department stewards. This means all department steward positions are open for two-year terms until October 2026.
If you were previously a department steward, your term has ended and you will need to fill out the nomination acceptance form again to run for the position.
This includes stewards who were elected last year: All elections that happened after October 2022 were vacancy elections to fill empty positions – individuals elected to these positions were serving a truncated term. Please disregard the previous announcement that only included numbers for positions that were not previously filled.
Fall 2024 Vacancy Elections for Open Joint Council Positions
Please see below for the final, corrected number of open positions on Joint Council:

Elections for open Joint Council Positions are vacancy elections, with terms ending in April 2025 when the next Local 4121 Triennial Elections for Joint Council will take place.
These final corrections were made to adjust for the following:
- Overcount on Number of Available Head Steward Positions for All Units: According to Article 9, Section 2a of the Local Bylaws, Unit Chairs & Recording Secretaries count as Head Steward roles. Therefore, there are 2 fewer head steward positions per unit than the Elections Committee’s previous calculations.
- Incorrect Count on Number of Steward Positions for RSE A-4 Unit: In prior announcements, the ratio for the number of department and head steward positions for the RSE A-4 unit was calculated using the same ratio for the ASE unit (1 department steward per 50 ASEs in the bargaining unit, and 1 head steward per 250 ASE members). This mistake occurred due to the Elections Committee working from an outdated version of the Local Bylaws, which lacked the ratio details for the RSE A-4 unit.
- The correct ratio for the RSE unit are as follows: 1 department steward per 30 RSEs (members + non-members) and 1 head steward per 100 RSEs members. See Article 9 Section 2 and 11 Section 2 of the Local Bylaws for details.
Updated List of Vacant Positions
The Fall 2024 List of Vacant Positions has been updated to reflect these new available positions. Please review to see if your specific unit/department has had additional positions become available.

Adjusted Elections Timeline
In light of these changes, the timeline for accepting nominations has been extended by one week and the entire election timeline has been adjusted accordingly:
- Nomination Period: 9am Monday, October 14 – 5pm Friday, November 1
- Candidate Statements Collection (for contested positions): 9am Monday, November 4 – 5pm Friday, November 8
- Voting (for contested positions): 9am Monday, November 11 – 5pm Wednesday, November 13
- Runoff (if needed): 9am Friday, November 15 – 5pm Wednesday, November 20
All nomination and voting/runoff periods close at 5:00 PM PDT/PST.
