Tuition Waivers

Exciting news! Today, the Senate-House conference committee announced that that a tax on tuition waivers will not be in the final version of the tax plan. This is a huge win, and it has only happened because of you! UAW 4121 members, the Graduate and Professional Student Senate, and the large-scale organizing efforts by thousands of other graduate students across the country showed that we would step up and hold Congress accountable. Our efforts are paying off — when we fight, we win!

In the midst of this huge win, however, there are still many provisions of the tax plan remaining that siphon money away from lower and middle income workers and towards the wealthiest.  For the good of a fair and equitable tax code, this bill must be killed: and we can still stop it. Let’s keep up the pressure on our Washington Congressional Delegation to vote no on this bill! Call now!

Membership Meeting Reminder

As a reminder, our December membership meeting is tomorrow from 5-6:30pm in Sieg 134. The proposed agenda for the meeting is as follows:

  • Approve Agenda and Minutes
  • Reports
  • Contract Campaign Round Tables: This will be the main event for the evening — come participate in an active strategizing discussion to talk over the bargaining survey results, finalize our initial bargaining demands, and develop a comprehensive organizing plan for engaging a supermajority of members in signing on!
  • Adjourn

All members in good standing are encouraged to attend, and new members may sign up to join the union at the meeting, and as always children are welcome.
