Over the last several years, Research Coordinators & Consultants have fought to organize and gain the rights & protections of unionized workers. As of March 18, the Washington Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC) has tallied their signed Authorization Cards and determined that a strong majority of UW Research Coordinators & Consultants want to unionize with 4121!
Coordinators & Consultants are a 700+ person strong unit of workers who are critical to the university’s research mission. They often work closely with Research Scientist/Engineers, and we are thrilled that they will now share the same collective bargaining rights by joining RSEs to create a 2100+ person-strong unit of Research Staff.
It has been powerful to see all of the ASE, Postdoc, and RSE workers who joined a tireless crew of Coordinator & Consultant organizers to reach out to their colleagues, and we look forward to continuing to build power with Coordinators & Consultants to continue to make working conditions better for ALL workers at the University of Washington.
Solidarity,
The Joint Council of 4121
